The eight components of SIOP, when used appropriately, have been proven to increase academic achievement for English Language Learners (ELL). The eight components can be used simultaneously as students progress through the stages of language development from Pre-Vocabulary Production, Early Vocabulary Production, Early Sentence/Speech Emergence, Intermediate Sentence/Speech, Early Advanced, and Advanced. Teaching Ideas for Implementing the SIOP Model includes additional strategies that have been proven successful with ELL students.
